Why dogs love peanut butter and how you can use it!

Peanut butter is a treat that some dog owners don’t know about. And I’m here to say… you should change that now! Dogs love this stuff and not only is it a good source of protein, but it also contains heart healthy fats, vitamin B, niacin, and vitamin E. Not only do dogs love peanut butter it can be useful for you too, if you know how to use it. I’m here to show you 3 ways you can use a normal sandwich spread for your pooch.

Now let me just preface this by saying that I don’t recommend you use this on a regular basis to feed your dog but as an OCCASIONAL treat only. And ONLY in small amounts. Remember, moderation is key here. Also make sure that you chose raw, unsalted peanut butter with no added sugar.

Now on to 3 ways you can use peanut butter with your dog...

1. To alleviate boredom: Put some peanut butter inside a Kong toy and your pooch will be happily occupied for hours trying to lick it all out. The dogs will love it, it’ll keep them busy and it’s fun to watch them try to get it all. A word of warning though, if you have a dog that tears apart toys you’ll want to watch them so they don’t accidently swallow something they shouldn’t.

2. For training: As this is a high quality treat for your pets you don’t want to give this to them all the time during training. This is best reserved for those times when you are trying to recondition a dog who is afraid of something or when your pooch simply wont cooperate and you’ve tried everything else. Make sure that your dog has actively done as you’ve asked before dispensing this treat. I also recommend using a doggy only spoon or the end of a wooden spoon. Simply dip it in the jar, swirl it around and when your dog performs the correct behaviour let him have a lick. He’ll soon associate that behaviour with something good and you can gradually reduce the treat and replace it with praise.

3. For photos: Indulging in a little dog photography? Use peanut butter to get some amazingly funny, tongue licking pics of your best friend. Not only will the dogs love it but you're also are making photo time an enjoyable experience for them which means great photos for you. And the best bit…the results are often hilarious and you’ll love them.

So there you go… 3 tips on how to use peanut butter. I hope they help you and if anyone gets some funny photos I hope you post them to my Facebook page so I can enjoy them too.
